We are deeply saddened by the events that unfolded at Apalachee High School in Georgia this week. Our hearts go out to all who have been impacted by this tragedy.
The Centegix Crisis alert system which was in place at the school is being credited with saving lives. The system has several elements, most notably a badge worn by faculty and staff members which can be used to place a school on lockdown and summon emergency responders. When the badge is triggered, emergency lighting and automated announcements may also be activated.
Smith County Schools began exploring the Centegix Crisis Alert system over a year ago. Implementation began last semester, and we began this school year with the system operational in all of our schools. Staff members now have Centegix badges which are worn at all times and can immediately alert emergency services in the event of a crisis.
We had already planned to conduct live testing of the Centegix Crisis Alert system in the coming weeks to ensure our faculty, staff, students, and emergency responders know how to react in an emergency. With the events that have transpired in Georgia, and the credit being given to Centegix for saving numerous lives, we believe it is even more important that we acquaint all stakeholders with the Crisis Alert system. Please look for more information soon about how the Centegix Crisis Alert system is being utilized in Smith County Schools.
